YouTube Money Calculator: Estimate Earnings by Views & RPM
Estimate how much a YouTube channel earns from ad revenue. Enter your views and an RPM range to see daily, monthly and yearly income.
RPM is what you actually receive per 1,000 views after YouTube takes its share. Find your real RPM in YouTube Studio under Analytics, Revenue.
How YouTube earnings are calculated
Ad revenue on YouTube comes down to two numbers: how many views you get and how much you earn per 1,000 of them.
Example: a channel with 100,000 views a month and an RPM between $2 and $5 earns roughly $200 to $500 a month, or $2,400 to $6,000 a year.
CPM vs RPM
| CPM | RPM | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | What advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions | What you receive per 1,000 video views |
| Counts | Only views that showed an ad | All views, with or without ads |
| YouTube's share | Before it is taken | After it is taken |
RPM is always lower than CPM, because not every view shows an ad and YouTube keeps part of the ad revenue (45% on long-form videos). Use RPM for earnings estimates.
What changes your RPM
RPM varies a lot from channel to channel. The biggest factors are:
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Niche | Finance, business and software pay far more than gaming, music or entertainment. |
| Audience country | Viewers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia are worth more to advertisers. |
| Video length | Videos over 8 minutes can carry mid-roll ads. |
| Season | Ad rates climb towards the end of the year and drop in January. |
| Format | Shorts earn much less per 1,000 views than long-form videos. |
The default range of $2 to $5 is only a starting point. Replace it with your own RPM for a realistic number.
Views needed for a monthly income
| Monthly goal | At $2 RPM | At $5 RPM |
|---|---|---|
| $100 | 50,000 views | 20,000 views |
| $1,000 | 500,000 views | 200,000 views |
| $5,000 | 2,500,000 views | 1,000,000 views |

Frequently asked questions

It depends on your RPM, which varies by niche, audience country and video format. Many channels fall somewhere between $1 and $5 per 1,000 views, and some niches earn well above that.
How much money is 1 million views on YouTube?
Multiply 1,000 by your RPM. At an RPM of $2 that is $2,000, and at $5 it is $5,000.
What is the difference between CPM and RPM?
CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is what the creator actually receives per 1,000 video views, after YouTube takes its share and counting views with no ads.
When can a channel start earning?
A channel has to join the YouTube Partner Program first, which has subscriber and watch-time requirements. Check the current thresholds in YouTube Studio.
